Previous Field Trips and Activities
The following educational programs were offered at the Adventures in Learning activities held at Learning Tree Farms from 2001 through 2007.
A Fun Five-Day Field Trip
Campers explored animals, plants, bugs, weather, survival, and other aspects of nature for five days. They discovered trails, creeks and other beautiful locations often hidden from view during our One-Day Programs. Campers learned and practiced orienteering, using a map and compass, and playing competitive games with other campers. more »
A FREE One-Day Field Trip weekdays
Students experienced Hands-On Activities reflecting the struggles of gaining our independence. They learned the importance of the three branches of government and how our government was formed. They used laptop computers to create and publish a two-page newsletter including digital pictures from their activities throughout the day. more »
A FREE One-Day Field Trip weekdays
Students learned about Mosby's Rangers and local Civil War History. Students had hands-on experience outside "firing" simulated cannonballs using baseball throwing machines. more »

Students designed the development of an acre of land and presented their design. They explored and learned about land use in urban and rural areas. They studied the impacts of land use, such as erosion, on the natural environment, watersheds, wetlands, and riparian buffers. more »

Students dug and found real artifacts at an authentic archaeological dig site. They dated, analyzed, measured, cleaned and practiced other skills necessary to be an archaeologist. Students uncovered the history of this significant property and learned more about the original owner, Chief Justice John Marshall. more »

Students visited a working 1725 Virginia Pioneer Homestead. They learned about the daily lives of pioneer children and experienced the hard work necessary for survival on the frontier. Students experienced how pioneer homes were built, how food was obtained, and how the Frontier evolved. more »
