5-Day Nature Camp
|
This five-day program was open to 4th through 12th grade students. The cost was $60 per student. All activities took place at Learning Tree Farms.
Campers:
- Hiked along trails that coil through forests and over hills and valleys
- Solved difficult challenges by working with team members
- Created and assembled take-home projects to amaze family and friends
- Listened to hair-raising legends and tall-tales, and made up stories of their own
- Used tools and devices Colonists and Native Americans developed centuries ago
- Found and dug up buried treasure with the help of a map and compass in our own Adventures Orienteering Game
- Developed strong communication skills
- Learned to work well with a team
- Created and published a newsletter describing their experiences at the Farm using laptop computers
- Discovered and practiced methods used by ecologists, botanists, zoologists, and meteorologists
- Honed problem-solving skills using teamwork, estimation, and the scientific method/li>
- Found out and performed survival techniques like how to stay warm and build outdoor shelters
- Became skilled at recognizing animal tracks and understand the importance of protecting animal habitats
- Read various types of maps and practice using a map and compass, culminating in an exciting Orienteering game
